Decluttering – To Keep or Not to Keep?

Decluttering Winnipeg, Saskatoon & Regina: The Four-Box Method Decluttering is not easy. Clutter is evidence of many things: poor habits, lack of organization, sentimental attachment, too much stuff. But, at bottom, each item of clutter is a decision delayed. The mail arrives, along with circulars, junk mail and catalogs. “Oh, I’ll go through that later!” most people think, deferring the simple decision to cull and toss the unwanted paper. Follow Modular Storage Systems Tips for Decluttering Winnipeg, Saskatoon & Regina – Four Easy Steps. Step One: The Four-Box method forces a decision, step one, item by item. To apply it, gather two boxes, a large trash can and our MOD storage totes which you can order online and we will deliver to your home. Label the boxes, “Put Away”, “Give Away/Sell”, “Trash/recycling” and “Storage”. Step Two: Once you have the four boxes, take them to the declutter area. One at a time, pick up each piece of clutter. Ask yourself, “Do I want to put this away in another place, donate it (or sell it at a yard sale), store it, or throw it away?” You may not release your grip on the item until you have made a decision. Step Three: At the end of the decluttering session, reserve 10 to 15 minutes to empty the boxes. Put Away items are put

Storage Winnipeg Saskatoon Regina-Creating Space @ Home

Storage Winnipeg, Storage Saskatoon, Storage Regina – Creating space through eco-friendly mobile storage options – In the past I’ve talked a lot about de-cluttering. I can’t explain how helpful this process has been for my family, for a whole variety of reasons. It allows us to stress less, clean less, and to spend more time together, rather than with the things we own. However, I do understand that many of the very items we want to not see everyday, we may need at some point.   Enter the idea of mobile storage Winnipeg, Saskatoon & Regina. Cottage Life in Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina

What can I say I miss most about living in Winnipeg?  Easy…Cottage life.   Packing up for the weekend and heading to a little cottage somewhere outside of the city in the land of green and trees and water – is there anything better?   Now, you probably don’t downsize your whole house or fully move for the summer, but if you are a cottage lifer, you will likely bring a round of seasonal items to the cabin each summer that will then stay there all season. In the fall, you bring these items back to the house, only to sit in a dusty corner all winter long.. Or perhaps you unpack it all, just to end up in a heap in the garage that you’re left to sort through months later, when the memories of splashing in the lake have faded and it doesn’t feel like such a fun task.  What someone could offer you cottage storage to help make your transition a little easier?  Mobile, friendly, convenient – IT’S MOD!   This could go a little differently. Let’s say you packed everything into our eco-friendly totes and kept an inventory list on our website that tells you exactly what is in each tote. We store your cottage storage items, you then request it in the spring and we

Eco-Friendly Storage at Low Cost

Eco-Friendly Storage Options If you are moving – or have ever moved in your life – you know the drill. We have all been there. You purchase cardboard boxes (for a whopping $2.85!) You have to get one of those roller tape rolls (?!) and then begin to build your box. Here’s hoping you do it correctly and tape all the right parts, so that it doesn’t fall apart on you in the end. When you get into your new space, your things come out of the cardboard box and you have to break it down and find recycling (hopefully) for it – or **shudder to think** it goes in the trash.  What if there was a better option? Good News – There is a better option: For $2 more, you can rent a MOD3 which is a beautiful piece of eco-engineering. These eco-friendly storage MODs are sturdy, already built, and ready to pack.  They are great for clothes, books, breakables, seasonal items (Christmas or Halloween decorations).  We love seeing creative photos of our MODs in use. What can YOU fit into a MOD? We will wait for you: Watch this funny video our MOD experts put together. I think “I Will Wait” by Mumford & Sons is a pretty fitting song, don’t you? Garden Storage

This year marks my first year in a house that I own and plan to stay in for a few years. That means my first year in a home with a large backyard and enough room for a garden of my own! In all of my previous years, I was renting and therefore I rented a plot at the community garden. Never did I need my own tools. But this year, I see just how much work it takes to have a good garden. See, it all starts inside in early spring. This could be between February and April, depending on where you live. It means planting in little seed pots, and in order to do so, you need some soil, some seeds, containers, popsicle sticks or clothes pins for labelling and the right water/heat ratio. The next piece is much bigger. For someone without a garden, it might mean equipment like a sod cutter, wheelbarrow and/or a rototiller. You have to dig out the garden area that you’re interested in planting in, till it, remove the sod, and then fill it with good soil and till it again. Add in some fertilizer and mulch and you have yourself a garden ready to plant! I never understood how big and heavy this equipment was until this year! It’s not something you would necessarily

Tiny House Movement in Canada

In our last blog we looked at the tiny house movement that is growing rapidly around the world, due to explosive property prices and interest rates, and the growing trend of sustainability and simplicity. “Smaller housing and less consumption can often represent 30-40% recovery of household gross income with no loss of quality of life. In fact, the majority of tiny home dwellers report a higher quality of life as a result of having less, and less space to labour for. It has been reported that over 60% of tiny home owners are debt fee and mortgage free.”1 Let’s look a little closer at this movement now, by examining how it’s unfolding right here in Canada. Here are reasons in Canada that people may choose to go tiny. To: Stop supporting a flawed economic system. Consume less depleting resources. Be less dependent on the grid and rising costs of energy. Create and maintain stronger connections with family, friends and community. However, there’s many zoning and municipal laws to consider, along with building codes, standards, insurance, financing, mobile and fixed foundation options. So where in Canada are these being built? There is a great list of Canadian tiny home builders listed on TinyHomeAlliance.ca here >> There’s even a Canadian tiny house listings website, now devoted to this new way of life!
